Have your say on future of local health services

Release Date: 14/02/2017

Residents in Richmond upon Thames are invited to a local Health and Care Forum to have their say on the future of local health services.

All parts of the local NHS – hospital consultants, doctors, nurses, GPs, therapists, hospitals, mental health trusts, pharmacists and commissioners - have worked together and with the local Council on a plan that aims to improve local health services. The draft Five Year Forward Plan* aims to make services sustainable for the long term.

Over the next twelve months, the NHS wants to build on many years of dialogue with local people in a new and wide-ranging 'conversation' across south west London, which is being called 'Talking Healthcare'.

As part of this initiative, independently-facilitated Health and Care Forums are being held in each of the six local boroughs.

Residents are invited to attend an open Health and Care Forum in Richmond on Thursday, 2 March between 6 and 9pm at the Clarendon Hall.

Cllr David Marlow, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said:

"I am pleased that the NHS in South West London has been keen to engage with both the Council and local people in the development of their thinking on the future of local health services.

“We are happy to see that there is a growing recognition of the need to develop integrated out of hospital health and social care services and put a greater emphasis of prevention and helping people stay healthy and independent.

“We now look forward to a full public debate and engagement on the issues set out in their STP and the opportunity to discuss the future of the health services in our area with our residents.

“I encourage as many residents as possible to attend this event and help shape future healthcare in Richmond upon Thames.”

Dr Graham Lewis, GP Chair of NHS Richmond CCG, added:

"We want to explain the thinking behind our plan to local people and to get their views on some of the ideas that are being put forward.

"The Five Year Forward Plan is not a detailed blueprint – it's really a series of developing plans for how we might improve different areas of healthcare. Ideas are still being developed and considered and we want to build on the conversations we have been having with local people over several years.

"I'd encourage local residents and organisations to come along and get involved."

See the draft plan online.

The local event is on Thursday, 2 March 2017 (6 to 9pm – registration from 5.30pm), The Clarendon Hall, York House, Twickenham TW1 3AA. If you would like to attend a forum, please register your interest online or email us at SWLCCGs@swlondon.nhs.uk.
