What do we do - Introduction
Richmond YOT's primary aims are to reduce youth offending and the public’s fear of offending in our Borough, by:
- Facilitating the swift administration of justice so that every young person accused of breaking the law has the matter resolved without delay, in order to reduce the risk of them re-offending
- Confronting young offenders with the consequences of their offending: for themselves and their families, their victims and the community and through doing this help them to develop a sense of responsibility
- Providing intervention programmes which will address the factors that put the young person at risk of further offending and so maximise their life chances and their opportunity for rehabilitation as law-abiding citizens
- Ensuring the service which the YOT provides is underpinned by principles of equality of opportunity and anti-discrimination
- Encouraging young offenders to make reparation to their victims or to the community
- Tackling youth crime - particularly persistent crime - to create a safer local community
- Reducing young people’s drugs, alcohol and substance misuse and the offending that is linked to it
- Reinforcing the responsibilities of parents and carers in ensuring acceptable behaviour by young people in their care
- Identifying young people most at risk of offending and offering them and their parents or carers early intervention.
