Details needed to register a birth
The registrar will require certain information when you come in to register the birth. The details you will be asked:
Baby
- Place of birth
- Date of birth
- Time of birth (for multiple births only)
- Forenames and surname (in which it is intended that the baby will be brought up)
- Sex of baby
Father
(Where details are entered in the registration)
- Forenames and surname (and any other names used)
- Place of birth
- Date of birth
- Occupation
- Address at time of registration (if different from Mother's address)
- Date of marriage (if applicable)
Mother
- Forenames and surname (and any other names used)
- Place of birth
- Date of birth
- Occupation
- Maiden surname
- Surname at marriage if different from maiden surname
- Address at time of baby’s birth
- Address at time of registration (if moved since baby was born)
- Date of marriage (if applicable)
- Number of children born alive / Number of still-births
- If you have you been married before
If English is not your first language, feel free to ask a friend or relative to help and attend the office with you, but please remember you must register the birth in person.
