Greener Richmond

Purpose

The Greener Richmond partnership aims to tackle climate change and other environmental issues together with partners in the local business, housing, transport, public, voluntary and community sectors.

This is achieved by reducing the borough’s contribution to climate change, ensuring it is able to adapt to changes in the climate and improving the local environment (travel, waste, water and biodiversity).

Objectives

• Deliver the targets and priorities of the Richmond Community Plan (2007-2017) and Local Area Agreement on climate change and other environmental issues and to report on progress on the above at agreed specified intervals to the Richmond Local Strategic Partnership (RLSP).
• To use the information from the above to develop and set future policy priorities.
• Provide a forum for businesses, public service providers and community organisations to discuss the challenges of sustainable development, exchange views, share experiences and set up joint working initiatives.
• Measure the borough’s carbon footprint and develop and adopt strategies for reducing its size.
• Undertake a climate risk assessment of the borough and develop and adopt strategies for adapting to the impacts of a changing climate.
• Communicate and raise awareness and encourage community and business led action on mitigating and adapting to climate change, water efficiency, waste minimisation and recycling and travel impact reduction.
• Maintain and, where possible, enhance species and habitats of importance and ensure they are able to adapt to changes in the climate.
• Develop and put into action, in consultation with the community, a workplan which identifies areas for action, a timetable for delivery and sets out roles and responsibilities (to be updated annually).
