Marriage

You can marry in any register office or licensed venue of your choice anywhere in England or Wales. At a licensed venue registration officers from the local register office will attend to conduct and register the ceremony.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames currently has 23 licenced venues where you can hold a marriage ceremony.

The registration officers for these venues are provided by the Richmond upon Thames Register Office.

Once you have selected your venue you will need to contact the Richmond upon Thames Register Office to check the availability of the registration officers and make a booking. You should confirm that the registration officers are available to attend before finalising your booking with the venue Manager.

The latest time a ceremony can take place on any day is at 5pm.

Bookings for the registration officers can be made up to one year in advance.

How to book the registration officers

You can book the registration officers by phone, email or in person. You will need to provide the following details for each of the parties:

• Full name
• Nationality
• Home address
• Condition (single, previous marriage dissolved, previous civil partnership dissolved, widow, widower)
• Contact phone number
• Name of the venue
• Date and preferred time of the wedding

Written confirmation and advice about the legal requirements will be provided.

Fees for the attendance of Registration Officers

From 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2010

• Monday to Friday: £285.00
• Saturday: £330.00
• Sunday: £400.00

These fees are in addition to the fees charged by the venue for the use of rooms and facilities.
