It is usual for mourners to send or bring flowers. If the family is using a funeral director, it is advisable for the florist to deliver the flowers to them. After the funeral service the funeral director will ask the chief mourner if they would like the cards removed from the tributes as a keepsake.
If you would like some suitable flowers to be sent to a hospital or nursing home, your funeral director may be able to arrange this for you. Sometimes people prefer that donations are given to a specific charity or hospice, rather than flowers, the funeral director can also arrange this. If this is the preferred option, it may be mentioned in the funeral announcement. Some flowers have specific meanings, and may make a tribute more poignant. Section markers can be purchased by anyone who may wish to dedicate a permanent piece of infrastructure to a friend or relative. They do not have to be buried in one of our cemeteries. However, the marker may only bear the inscription "donated by.." rather than "in loving memory of.." as it is not intended to be used as a substitute memorial.
Each section marker costs £120 which includes the inscription. It is hoped that all sections within the Borough Cemeteries will eventually be marked in this way. You can download an application form from here
