Skip hire
People who are making changes to their property may want to hire a skip, as the quantity and size of the waste is difficult to take to the local Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre. We provide a skip hire service, please call 08456 122 660.
What we will do for you
- We will offer you six different sizes of skip from 2 cubic yard to 16 cubic yards.
- We will let you know if you require a skip licence, this is dependant on where the skip is being placed for example on a public road or a private road. (Skips are not allowed on roads with Red Routes, in Disabled parking bays or at locations that are considered dangerous or have other restrictions).
- We will let you know how much the skip will cost when you request the skip and have the necessary licence if one is required.
- Our contractor will deliver skips within 3 days of request. Skips will be collected as soon as possible after notification, normally within 5 working days.
- We will let you know what day the skip will be delivered.
- We will deliver the skip between 7am and 2 pm, Monday, Wednesdays or Fridays. We do not deliver Tuesdays or Thursdays, weekends or Bank Holidays.
- We will complete a Trade Waste Collection form with you when the skip is delivered, this is a legal document, which states that you agree only to put permitted substances in the skip.
- Skips that do not require licences can be hired to customers for as long as the customer requires them, but the customer is responsible for notifying the Council when the skip requires collection.
- Skips on the highway can also be kept for as long as required, however the licence needs to be renewed after each three week period has expired.
- We will collect payment by cheque made payable to the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames when the skip is delivered and issue you with a VAT receipt.
- We will ensure that our web pages are up to date with current information and including current costs.
- Our skip desk will let you know which other Skip companies are licensed to provide you with a skip in this Borough. A list is available on request by telephoning 020 8487 5115.
- We will take enforcement action against skip companies who deposit skips within the Borough without the appropriate skip licence, are unlit at night or not suitably marked.
- We will ensure that if you contact us we respond to you within our Council’s customer service standards
How you can help us
- Please try to reduce, re-use and recycle as much as possible. The Council provides a number of collection services for residents which can be utilised.
- Please do not overload the skip. The load should be no higher than the side of the skip. This is to make sure the load can be transported safely.
- Please do not burn items in the skip.
- Please do not put toxic waste, hazardous substances, asbestos, fridges, and freezers as these must be disposed of safely.
