Buildings at risk

Unfortunately due to neglect, dereliction or poor maintenance, listed buildings can sometimes fall into a state of disrepair that puts their special interest and historic fabric ‘at risk’. While it is the duty of owners to maintain their own buildings, the Council in its role to protect and improve the historic environment monitors listed buildings in the Borough on a periodic basis. The Council encourages action by owners through negotiation and providing advice and help in securing grants, or if considered appropriate in the most extreme cases the serving of an urgent works notice on the owner.

A full national list is compiled by English Heritage - see link below.

At present there are 10 buildings in the Borough on the register, some of which have works scheduled to start shortly or are subject to planning applications.
