Citizenship ceremonies

The citizenship ceremony is the final stage in the process of becoming a British Citizen.

If your application for citizenship is approved by the Home Office you will need to attend a citizenship ceremony, unless you are under the age of 18 years.

You will receive an invitation letter from the Home Office asking you to book your citizenship ceremony.

If you live in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, or if you detailed on the application form that you would like to attend a ceremony in the borough, you will be asked to contact the Richmond upon Thames Register Office to book your citizenship ceremony.

During the citizenship ceremony each citizen will be required to repeat the words of the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, and the Pledge of Loyalty to the United Kingdom.

Group ceremonies

We hold regular group citizenship ceremonies with the Mayor or Deputy Mayor in attendance to welcome new citizens. You can invite guests to witness this celebration.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Individual ceremonies

Individual ceremonies can be arranged for those who would prefer. These can also be arranged at short notice.  The Mayor or Deputy Mayor does not attend.  There is a fee to pay for an individual ceremony.
