Traditional Sections in a cemetery

Traditional sections

On the traditional section, you may choose to have a memorial. There are different types of memorials available, you can have either a headstone/a headstone with kerbs/or you may plant the grave space.

There are traditional sections in East Sheen, Teddington and Twickenham cemeteries. The grave can be prepared to allow up to two full burials. There are some graves available in Teddington & Twickenham cemeteries that will allow up to four full burials. If no further full burials are required, the grave owner may request the burial of up to eight cremated remains in the grave space. A fee (applicable on the date of the burial) is payable for each subsequent interment.

Traditional graves used to be known as Class A, B or C graves. This was previously used to indicate graves on a pathside, second row in, or within the section, and were priced accordingly. We now have either pathside or non-pathside graves with just two fees applicable.

It is recommended that a period of at least six months has elapsed from the date of burial, before a memorial is erected. This allows for the natural settlement of the grave, and will aid in the stability and safety of the memorial.

Hire a temporary grave surround

In the interim, however, you may wish to hire a temporary grave surround.

You can download the temporary grave surround application form(pdf, 46KB), complete it and send it to the Cemetery Office.

The frame can be placed on the grave approximately two months after the burial has taken place and can remain on the grave for subsequent years at a reduced fee.  The cemetery office will advise you on the cost of this at the time of your enquiry.
