Councillors' allowances

All Members receive a basic allowance and a number of Members also receive a Special Responsibility Allowance (SRA). The details of the Members' Allowance Scheme are agreed each year at Annual Council. Current allowances can be found in Part 6 of the Council's Constitution.

The Council publishes an annual list of allowances paid to Members under the scheme over the preceding Municipal Year.

Independent Remuneration Panel

In the summer of 2006, the council created a panel of three people wholly independent of it to investigate the levels of allowances paid to councillors and co-optees. The panel has now completed its work and its final report can be viewed via the following link: IRP final report(pdf, 237KB)
