Your Home Energy Visit
Once you have applied and received your Information Pack you will be able to book in a time for your free Home Energy Visit.
What to expect
A trained Home Energy Expert will visit your home and ask you a number of questions as they survey your property. They will also:
- Analyse your energy bills
- Take meter readings
- Provide your Eco Starter-Kit items
- Provide energy saving recommendations and the available grants
When can they visit?
8am - 5pm on weekdays. Assessments take no longer than 90minutes.
Saturdays appointments and weekday appointments outside of these times can be made by special arrangement.
How to prepare for your visit
Your will be included in the assessment. Please ensure there is adequate access to your loft, energy meters, boiler and hot water system prior to your visit.
Your annual gas and electricity usage is used to calculate your potential savings. Please have 12 months energy bills ready. If unavailable, benchmark data will be used; however, your predicted savings will not be as accurate.
For more information please see the Which? guides to understanding your energy bill and understanding your energy meters.
Getting involved in your Home Energy Visit
To get the most from your visit we recommend participating in the inspection of your loft, boiler and heating system. Doing so may give you a better understanding of how energy is used within your home.
After your visit
Following your visit you will receive an Energy Saving Report. This provides a summary of easy things you could do around the house to save energy as well as boiler replacements and insulation improvements. For information about grants for these home improvements please see the grants and discounts page.
Your Home Energy Expert
Home energy experts are provided by British Gas.
An agreement is in place between Richmond Council and British Gas that ensures home energy experts will make you aware of the grant funded measures available through this project but are not allowed to sell any other British Gas utility supplies or products to you while completing these home energy assessments.
The Low Carbon Zone services mentioned are available to all, regardless of who supplies your energy. You will not be required to switch energy provider as part of this project.
Your information pack will include the full name and direct phone number of your Home Energy expert. All home energy experts have a British Gas ID card and, where requested, are happy for personalised secure entry codes to be issued in advance of visits.
