School funding
There are a range of funding sources available for environmental projects in schools as listed below and also specialised financing for energy saving and renewable energy measures.
'It's Your Community' (O2 and the Conservation Foundation)
The Conservation Foundation and O2's new award scheme, 'It's Your Community' offers grants of up to £1,000 for projects to help improve the local environment. The Russell Primary School has picked up a grant for the regeneration of their wildlife area and in particular the construction of a bog garden with a walkway and bridge.
Projects are judged on the following criteria:
- Impact on the community’s local environment
- Usefulness and practicality
- Sustainability
- Improving environmental awareness
- Dedication
- Originality
- Financial need
Schools are encouraged to apply. The deadline is ongoing.
Waitrose Community Matters
Waitrose branches across the country are giving away a share of £1000 a month to community projects. Each month three projects are chosen to share in the pot of money for their work in the local community. Check the full list of Waitrose branches to find your local branch.
