Falls Prevention

What are Falls Prevention classes?

Falls classes are for people who have had falls, have a fear of falling, poor balance or mobility. All Falls Prevention classes are run by tutors who have undertaken the Postural Stability Course run by Later Life Training (the current recommended training course). Tutors use gentle movements to strengthen the leg, arm, back, ankle and pelvic floor muscles which help to improve balance and mobility.

How can I join the classes?

You can be referred into the falls prevention classes by your GP, a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and by staff from the 2 Falls Clinics. If you would like further information about the referral process please contact the Exercise Referral & Falls Prevention Administrator at health@richmond.gov.uk. Once a recognised health professional has completed the required referral form, you will be contacted to arrange a convenient place and time for you to start attending classes.
