What’s available?

Sheen Lane Day Centre is a Centre of Excellence for Richmond residents over 60 years old with high level care needs who might otherwise be isolated in the community. Take a look at our page on eligibility for more details

The centre offers a chance to socialise and provides more support for those with higher care needs, such as assisting you with your personal care needs and administering your medication. The Centre works alongside other professionals to offer forms of rehabilitation that maximise long term independence, mobility and living skills. We can support you by referring to occupational therapists and physiotherapists as appropriate. We can also assist with prescribed exercise programmes. Your attendance at the centre may provide your carer with the opportunity for respite from their caring responsibilities.

Morning or afternoon attendance is available at half the full day price.

Facilities and services include:

  • Person-centered planning with individual care plans, regular reviews and an allocated key worker
  • Professional, committed and caring staff
  • A safe, clean and friendly environment
  • Chiropody and hairdressing
  • Adapted toilets and a shower/toilet equipped with a ceiling track and hoist
  • A therapy room stocked with a range of therapy aids and adaptations
  • Weight monitoring if required
  • Breakfast, a two course lunch with a choice of menu, and teas, coffees and light snacks throughout the day. Dietary and cultural needs are catered for.
  • A purpose built Aids to Daily Living Kitchen for users to regain previous skills.
  • A conservatory
  • Wheelchair access and a loop system
  • Door-to-door transport in a wheelchair accessible bus, with a driver and escort

Opening times

Sheen Lane Day Care Centre is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and closed on all public holidays.

What support can I get?

We’ll need to discuss with you what support you might need - we call this an assessment.

We may offer you short term assistance called Reablement to regain your independence or confidence. This service lasts for up to 6 weeks and is free.

After Reablement, we’ll discuss any ongoing needs you might have through a Self Directed Support (SDS) Assessment, where we’ll estimate the cost of your support and let you know whether we can make a financial contribution.

Can I get help with the cost?

You may have to contribute towards the cost of your care and support, depending on your level of savings, income and expenses.

You will be required to fill out a financial assessment form to see if you qualify for help from us. To get a rough idea of costs, you can carry out a quick, confidential, financial self assessment online.

If we can make a contribution, we call this a Personal Budget. You can look after the money yourself and use it to arrange your own support, or you can ask the Council to hold the money and help you to find the support you need

What if I don’t qualify for financial support?

If you don't qualify for financial help from us and we’ve assessed your needs as eligible, you’re still welcome to use Sheen Lane Day Care Centre but you’ll have to pay the full cost of the service.

You could also arrange to employ someone directly, a Personal Assistant, to support you. Hestia, a local organisation, can help you to find someone.

The Money Advice Service, set up by government, provides free, unbiased and independent advice, including useful information on employing your own personal assistant.

You could also contact a private home care agency. Remember to take care to choose an agency that’s registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Call 03000 616161 or email enquiries@cqc.org.uk. We maintain a list of home care agencies(pdf, 295KB) in the borough.
