Small grants
For all schools
During 2010/11 accredited schools can bid for funding to support activities set out in the action plan.
- Outstanding (gold) schools can bid for up to £2,000
- Higher Standards (silver) up to £1,500
- Sustainable (bronze) up to £500
Successful bids for 2010/11 so far include new showers, cycle and scooter storage, helmet storage, cyclist training and maintenance sessions.
Jo Hamblett, Foundation Stage Leader, St Mary’s and St Peter’s CE Primary SchoolThrough our school travel plan we were awarded a small grant of £1,050 which we used to buy four bikes for the staff. They are kept at school and are used by staff either to cycle to meetings or to cycle home in the evenings.
Lucy MacArthur, St. Mary’s C.E Primary SchoolThrough our School Travel Plan, we have received funding which has allowed us to develop a regular bike club, professionally run, which is a fantastic extra-curricular activity for the children.

Eco-Schools
For all schools
An environmental education programme designed to help all schools in Britain become sustainable by 2012. To see how you can get involved visit the council’s Go Green website or visit the Eco-Schools website.
Generation Green
Generation Green is a long term programme run by British Gas which aims to make it easy and rewarding for teachers to promote sustainability in the classroom. Lesson plans and teaching resources are available to download.
Through carrying out pieces of work, schools are rewarded with ‘green leaves’. You are able to exchange these for items to assist you improving your schools sustainability.
