Joining a library
Joining the library is easy. To become a permanent member of the library service:
- Complete an application form at any of our libraries. You can download a copy of the Library Membership Application Form
(pdf, 2303KB) from here. - Your application form must be signed by a parent or guardian, and you must show proof of their name and address.
When you have completed the application form, you will be given a library card which will allow you to use any of the libraries in the borough and to borrow up to a maximum of 10 items.
Remember: your library card will also allow you to use a public computer terminal in libraries, and use the 24/7 electronic services from home.
Temporary membership
If you are unaccompanied by a parent or guardian when you join the library, or are new to the area and your parent or guardian cannot provide proof of address, you can become a temporary member of the library service. To become a temporary member of the library service:

When you have completed the application form you will be given a library card which will allow you to use any of the libraries in the borough and to borrow up to a maximum of 5 books. The temporary card is valid for 6 months but can be made permanent by obtaining a signature from your parent or guardian.
