Bathing Water Quality

The Environment Agency monitors the quality of designated bathing waters in England and Wales against standards in the bathing water regulations (SI 1991/1597), which come from the EC Bathing Water Directive (76/160/EEC). The Bathing Water Directive was created to protect public health and to maintain and improve water quality.
