Information for prospective school governors

In the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames we have 51 schools:

• 40 primary schools
• Eight secondary schools, including three Academies
• Two special schools
• One nursery school

Governors play a vital role in the success of these schools. Their responsibilities encompass the direction and conduct of a school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and securing the welfare of its pupils.

The School Governing Body takes a strategic role, acts as a critical friend to the School and is accountable for its decisions. An effective governing body is a source of enormous strength to a school.
