NHS COVID-19 App
About the NHS COVID-19 App
People living in England and Wales are being urged to download the NHS official contact-tracing app.
Download the App
- In the Apple Store
- On Google Play
The app has a number of tools to protect you, including contact tracing, local area alerts and venue check-in. It uses proven technology from Apple and Google, designed to protect every user's privacy.
Features of the app
- Trace - Get alerted if you have been near other app users who have tested positive for COVID-19
- Alert - Lets you know the level of coronavirus risk in your postcode area
- Check-in - Get alerted if you have visited a venue where you may have come into contact with coronavirus
- Symptoms - Check if you have coronavirus symptoms and see if you need to order a free test
- Test - Helps you book a test and get your result
- Isolate - Keep track of your self isolation countdown and access relevant advice.
The app will help the NHS understand if the virus is spreading in a particular area, and in addition, the Council will be able to respond quickly to stop it spreading further and save lives.
The app will do this while protecting a user's anonymity. The app will not access or track your location. It will only record your distance from other phones that have the NHS Test and Trace app installed. Data is held on your phone
Watch Protecting your privacy:
If you choose to use the venue check in function, your phone will hold protected data about which venues you checked into, and at what time.
The NHS and the Government will not have access to any of this data. They cannot use the app to track your location, for law enforcement, or to monitor self-isolation and social distancing.
