Skills and experience

  • Knowledge of internal and external factors currently affecting the work undertaken in local government
  • Experience of conducting research and using evidence to draw conclusions
  • Experience of working collaboratively to achieve an agreed outcome
  • Experience of using the internet, websites, and social media as communication and research tools
  • Ability to produce succinct and persuasive written reports, and express yourself confidently and concisely both on paper and in person
  • Ability to take decisions where appropriate to do so, rather than referring them to others
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships at different levels
  • Ability to organise your own workload, prioritising tasks and responding flexibly to frequently changing needs and priorities
  • Ability to think flexibly, innovatively and resourcefully to solve complex problems
  • A good understanding of own strengths and development needs together with a commitment to self-improvement
  • Ability to use effective means of communication in order to resolve problems
  • Ability to think in a rational, critical way and make logical inferences from verbal and numerical information


  • GCSE Mathematics and English Language at Grade A*-C or equivalent
  • Educated to a degree level, and achieved or expected to achieve a minimum 2:2


  • A clear and reasoned interest in working in local government
