*The South West Constituency covers the area of London Borough of Hounslow, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Read more about these elections on the London Elects website.

Who can vote

To vote in these elections you must:

  • Be registered to vote
  • Live in London
  • Be at least 18 years old on the day of the elections
  • Be a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has or does not require leave to remain in the UK

If you aren't yet registered, you can register to vote online. To participate in these elections you must submit your registration by midnight on Tuesday 16 April 2024.

How to vote

You can choose whether to vote in person, by post or by proxy. See video guidance from London Elects on how to complete your ballot papers.

In person

To vote in person, you will need to attend your polling station between the hours of 7am and 10pm on polling day, 2 May 2024. You will be required to present an accepted form of photo ID in order to be issued with a ballot paper. Read more about the requirement to bring photo ID

If you do not have an accepted form of photo ID you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate until 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

Find your polling station

By post

The deadline to register to vote by post in these elections was Wednesday 17 April 2024, at 5pm.

If you are registered to vote by post, your postal vote pack for these elections should arrive in the next few days.

You will have three ballot papers to complete and return (Mayor of London, South West Constituency Assembly Member and London-wide Assembly Member), together with your postal voting statement which must contain your date of birth and usual signature (unless you have been granted a waiver). There is a reply paid envelope (with an enlarged ‘B’ on the front) for you to return it all in.

Due to changes to the rules introduced by the Election Act 2022, postal votes can now only be accepted by the Returning Officer if they are returned via the postal service or handed in with a completed postal vote return form.

Any postal votes handed in on polling day at a polling station will require a postal vote return form to be completed with an election official. Any postal vote handed in without the accompanying form being completed will now have to be rejected. Please therefore allow the staff to assist you with this if you do intend to take your postal vote to the polling station rather than return it via post. Note that you can only hand in your own postal vote and those of up to five other electors for these elections.

We strongly recommend you put your postal vote in a Royal Mail post box in good time for it to be delivered to us. We must receive your completed postal pack by 10pm on Thursday 2 May for it to count.

Find out more about applying to vote by post.

By proxy

The deadline to register to vote by proxy in these elections was Wednesday 24 April 2024, at 5pm.

You will be required to present an accepted form of photo ID in order to vote at a polling station. Read more about the requirement to bring photo ID

If you do not have an accepted form of photo ID you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate until 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
