Due to popular demand from young residents, Richmond Council will be running a new youth zone every Thursday at Whitton Community Centre. Young residents aged 11-16 will now have a safe place to hang out, spend time with friends and do their homework. On offer will be plenty of positive activities including smoothie making sessions, table tennis tournaments, advice and support. A dedicated team of youth workers will also be on hand to support young people aged 11 – 19yrs with anything they have on their mind or further opportunities to become involved in.
Cllr Christine Percival, Strategic Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Children's Services, said:
“This will be a new, temporary place for young people in Whitton while longer-term solutions are being pursued. The youth zone will provide a place for young people to meet friends, have fun and get involved in many different activities. It’s an important service to the local community ensuring that our youths have something to do and somewhere to go after school finishes.”
The new youth zone will open on 5 July 2012 at Whitton Community Centre. Session will then be run on a weekly basis between 2:45pm – 4:45pm.
