Volunteering Richmond launches locally

Residents and local businesses interested in getting involved in their community will now be able to fill in an easy online form to register their skills and look up volunteering opportunities, with the launch of a new local volunteer service in Richmond upon Thames.

Volunteering Richmond, a localised service run by Groundwork London in partnership with Richmond Council, has launched its new online volunteering service, making it easy and straightforward for organisations looking for volunteers to find the right candidates and for candidates keen to volunteer to find the information they need.

Cllr Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council’s Strategic Cabinet Member for Communities, Business and Culture said, “I am very excited to be launching Volunteering Richmond which will offer new opportunities to residents who are interested in becoming volunteers and to local organisations looking for volunteers. The feedback we received from the All in One consultation was that residents wanted to get more involved in their communities at a very local level, working together to make the borough a better place. Together with the recently launched Community Links programme, Volunteering Richmond aims to reach new potential volunteers by going right into the heart of local communities.

“Volunteering Richmond will be getting out and about in the borough holding face to face sessions in each of the fourteen villages, using libraries, community centres, colleges and other local venues to promote getting involved and all the benefits this can bring to individuals and communities.

“We have a very vocal and vibrant voluntary sector and I look forward to seeing organisations working together to welcome Volunteering Richmond and help the community reap the rewards of this partnership.”

Carla Diego-Franceskides, Senior Community Projects Officer, Groundwork London said, "Groundwork is really excited to launch the Volunteering Richmond service, especially during Volunteers' Week. We are expanding our provision of volunteering services and aim to reach out to as many people in Richmond as possible through our unique mobile volunteering service in the borough. Together with our new website where people can browse a range of opportunities in their local area, we aim to enable as many people as possible to be active in their communities and make a real contribution in Richmond."
