Use of fireworks
Fireworks are a fun way of marking celebrations. While most people enjoy firework displays, they can cause serious problems including noise disturbance, distress to pets, and injuries to onlookers.
The use of fireworks is prohibited by law from 11pm - 7am except for the following occasions:
- Chinese New Year - permitted until 1am the following day
- 5 November - permitted until midnight
- Diwali - permitted until 1am the following day
- New Year’s Eve (31 December) - permitted until 1am the following day
There is an exception for local authority employees for the purposes of local authority fireworks displays, national public celebrations or national commemorative events.
In addition, people under the age of 18 are prohibited from using adult fireworks in public places.
Enforcement
The regulations regarding the use of fireworks are enforced by the police, not the local council. Therefore, if you are being disturbed by the use of fireworks by minors in public places, or during prohibited hours, please contact the police on telephone number 101.
