Council Tax Benefit

You may be able to get Council Tax Benefit (CTB) if you need financial help to pay your Council Tax bill. You may also get Second Adult Rebate if you share your home with another adult who is unable to pay towards the Council Tax.

Main Council Tax Benefit

Council Tax Benefit (CTB) is a means-tested benefit which is paid to people who pay Council Tax for their home. The amount of CTB depends on the amount of Council Tax you pay, the number of people who live with you and the income and savings you have.

A successful claimant will either get "maximum" CTB or "partial" CTB depending on their income.

If you want to apply for Council Tax Benefit see our make a claim page for further information.

See our Benefits Calculator page to see how much CTB you may be entitled to.

Second Adult Rebate

Second Adult Rebate is also known as Alternative Maximum CTB. This is available to claim if your income is too high to get the main CTB but you have other adults living with you who have low incomes. Other adults do not include your partner or spouse, joint tenants or your landlord.

See our Second Adult Rebate page for more information on what you may be entitled to.
