Our Autism Pledge

London Borough of Richmond is taking the following steps in line with the National Guidance December 2010 to implement recommendations of the Autism strategy within the borough.

A senior lead officer is taking responsibility for ensuring that the recommendations of the Autism strategy are implemented locally.

Autism awareness training will be made mandatory for all Council staff working in the Learning Disability, Mental Health, Access and Commissioning teams from 2011 onwards. More specialist training to front line staff will be delivered from 2012.

The local authority will request that the PCT review the scope of specialist autism training to health professionals as part of their response to the Autism strategy.

The Local Learning Disability Partnership Board and Mental Health Programme Board will include raising awareness of autism locally in their action plans for 2011-12.

The needs of adults with autistic spectrum conditions will be included in the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.

The Transitions Programme Board will ensure continuous improvements in the transitions process for young people in Richmond Borough, including young people with autistic spectrum conditions.

A senior practitioner social worker will work within the learning disability team and ensure that good practise in supporting adults with autism is shared across all social work teams.

Future supported employment services will be commissioned to include support to adults with autistic spectrum conditions.

An autism strategy group made up of key stakeholders is identifying service gaps for adults with autistic spectrum conditions and recommend what type of service should be commissioned to bridge the gap.

A local autism strategy is being written.
