Changes to the way you can pay
At banks
The Council has recently changed it’s banking arrangements and no longer provides facilities to make payments at branches of Barclay’s bank.
If you pay by paying-in slip at a bank for Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefits Overpayments, or other services that are invoiced, you can continue to do this at your own bank, but not at a branch of Barclays bank unless your account is also with them.
If you previously paid at a Barclay’s branch and you do not have an account with them, then payments can still be made locally at any Post Office or PayPoint taking your bill with you, or via one of the wide range of alternative payment methods.
Post offices
You can pay free of charge by cash, cheque, or debit card at any Post Office. You must take your bill with you, as the Post Office will need to read the bar code details printed on your bill. If you pay by cheque, make your cheque payable to ‘Post Office Ltd’.
PayPoints
You can pay free of charge by cash at any PayPoint. You must take your bill with you, as PayPoint will need to read the bar code details printed on your bill.
Direct debit
Setting up a Direct Debit for Council Tax or Business Rates is so much easier now by applying online.
- No paper forms or postage costs
- Quick and convenient
- Safe and secure
Direct Debit already has many advantages, but now its even easier.
