New Interactive Olympics website launched!
Nearly 300 roads in Richmond upon Thames will be directly impacted by the Olympic Games this summer. To help residents find out the direct impact where they live, the Council has launched new web pages with an interactive mapping tool.
There are six Olympic events taking place in the borough which will involve many roads being closed or parking suspensions for certain periods of time. Areas such as Richmond, Twickenham, Hampton, Hampton Wick, Teddington, Ham and Petersham will particularly be impacted. The Council’s new web tool will allow residents to look at the event routes on a map with information about relevant road closures and parking restrictions. There is a special feature which allows residents to input their postcode and see where their houses lies in relation to the race routes.
Cllr Geoffrey Samuel, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources and Chairman of the Council’s Strategic Olympics Programme Board, said:
“We are aware that the borough will be inconvenienced by the Olympic events and we want residents to be able to prepare in time. The new web pages will provide a personalised snapshot of how the Olympics are going to affect your road and your local Council services.
“For residents who do not have internet access, all affected roads will be listed in the Richmond and Twickenham Times in a three page advertorial published on 6 July. Residents can also call the Council on 08456 122 660 and speak to an advisor who will be able to help them. Alternatively you can stop by your local library where staff will help you log on and see the web pages.”
