Appointee services

An Appointee will look after your finances for you should you become unable to manage them yourself.

It may be possible for us at the Council to look after your finances and become your Appointee if one of the following applies:

  • You're incapacitated so unable to deal with your own finances.
  • You sign a letter giving us permission to apply for appointeeship.
  • You have the capacity to deal with your finances but we apply for appointeeship because there's evidence that you're at risk of financial abuse or unable to manage your finances.

Appointeeship can't be used as an alternative to care management procedures.

If you want us to become your appointee, please speak to the person who provides or arranges your care for help to organise this.

What do we do as Appointee?

As Appointee, we arrange to receive your state benefits and pay your bills. This includes managing your finances by ensuring that you get the correct benefits and use your money to pay for daily living bills.

What if I'm not eligible for a social care services?

A relative, friend or associate can apply to the Department for Work and Pensions to become your Appointee.
