Improving health through physical activity
Government guidelines suggest we should do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity at least 5 times a week for good health and enhanced quality of life. Physical activity offers many benefits to health and well-being:
- Reduced risk of heart disease or stroke
- Prevention or control of conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and raised cholesterol
- Control of body fat and the maintenance of a healthy weight
- Release from stress and depression
- Improved mobility, flexibility and posture
- Increased strength and stronger bones
- Social interaction and general psychological well-being
The best way to find out all the benefits of physical activity is to get active and see for yourself. It only takes half an hour a day to make a positive change to your health and happiness.
