Dementia information event coming to Age UK this May

As part of Dementia Action Week, Age UK in Twickenham is hosting a pop-up event for residents to learn more about the condition and the local support available for those who are living with or caring for someone with dementia.

The free event will take place on Wednesday 15 May 2024 from 10.30am to 2pm at Patch on 42 York Street in Twickenham (TW1 3BW).

Attendees are invited to come along for tea, cake and a wealth of practical information about what dementia is, how best to support someone with dementia, the many local support resources available, and work being done in our community to make Richmond upon Thames a more dementia-friendly borough.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 10.30 to 10.45am: Introduction from Age UK Richmond and Dementia Friendly Communities Richmond
  • 10.45 to 11.15am: Alzheimer's Society talk and Q&A
  • 11.15 to 12pm: Dementia Friends information session delivered by Alzheimer's Society ambassador
  • 12 to 12.15pm: Ba Duan Jin (gentle mind and body) exercises from home care provider Visiting Angels
  • 12.45 to 1.15pm: Brighter Together discuss their intergenerational work
  • 1.15 to 1.30pm: Find Better Care talk about The Mental Capacity Act
  • 1.30 to 2pm: Making Richmond more dementia friendly: discussion with Kew Gardens, Visit Richmond, Hounslow and Richmond Community Health and other Dementia Friendly Community Richmond members

While the event is free it is recommended that you register your attendance to help the team manage numbers on the day. You can register for the event via Eventbrite or by calling 020 8744 1965.
